Four Psychedelics with Incredible Therapeutic Benefits

Since the dawn of time, man has been experimenting with altered states of consciousness induced by psychedelics. Indeed, Mother Nature’s pharmacopeia of therapeutic plants and herbs offer extraordinary psychoactive benefits.

But rather than just going on a far-out hallucinogenic trip, when taken responsibly, these powerful psychedelics have extraordinary properties that can bring about incredible healing. New research shows psychedelics have meaningful applications in the treatment for issues like depression, addiction, anxiety, PTSD, and overall life satisfaction.

Ketamine IV

In controlled clinical settings, ketamine reveals itself to be a promising treatment for depression and suicidal thoughts.

One of the most efficacious methods of ketamine is when it’s administered by IV. Ketamine IV infusion therapy contains a blend two mirror-image molecules, “R” and “S” ketamine. Together, they act fast on your NMDA receptors to stimulates the neurotransmitter glutamate which is responsible for regulating mood.

When under stress, brains experience neuron degeneration. Ketamine stimulates synaptic regrowth, helping neurons repair lost connections by rebuilding electrical activity. What’s more, this effect is almost immediate after taking ketamine, faster than antidepressants.

Bufo Alvarius (5-MEO-DMT)

Legendary psychonaut Terrence McKenna was a huge advocate of DMT’s ability to help us transcend our physical limitations. Found in the venom of the Bufo Alvarius toad, 5-MEO-DMT is a psychoactive substance that has been shown to produce sustained enhancement of satisfaction with life, and an easing of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder in one scientific study.

When smoked or vaporized, Bufo Alvarius 5-MEO-DMT delivers an intense experience lasting up to half an hour. Personal accounts speak of profound spiritual clarity, non-duality and divine union. Many speak of mystical encounters and are often left with a greater understanding of their lives and the greater nature of reality.

Psilocybin

Psilocybin is the active compound found in ‘magic mushrooms.’ It has been enjoyed for years recreationally for its ability to summon gentle euphoria and visual and auditory hallucinations.

Exciting research shows that when taking doses twice a week every fortnight, psilocybin boosts neuro-connectivity which can help those suffering from depression, even up to 12 months after treatment. For those wanting to wean themselves from antidepressants, psilocybin has been shown to help remove people themselves from them slowly, via micro-dosing.

Ayahuasca

Translating to ‘spirit of the vine’, ayahuasca is a sacred brew made with the Psychotria viridis shrub and the stalks of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine. Used ritually in ceremonies by Amazonia shaman, ayahuasca is a potent entheogen.

Unlike other psychedelics that offer pleasurable ‘trips’, the ritual of taking ayahuasca is often a six-hour experience that includes vomiting and diarrhoea.

But the journey is worth it.

A blend of both DMT and MAOIs affect the central nervous system to induce altered state of consciousness and often euphoria. Ceremony participants speak of being at one with all there is. Studies back this up, reporting that participants scored higher when it came to self-transcendence and quality of life.

If you are considering experiencing sacred plant and animal medicine, it is vital to embark on this spiritual journey under the guidance of a trusted, experienced facilitator or shaman. I can serve as a guide to help you decide if psychedelics are right for you and help you find safe and legal ways to work with this medicine.

During the post-psychedelics integration process, you will use information and wisdom gained from the experience to heal. Traumas may resurface in this time so make sure you have the right support network around you.  As part of my coaching business I offer entheogenic integration and preparation as this is a important part of the process.

DISCLAIMER: Most psychedelics are not FDA-approved so always consult an expert if thinking about taking them responsibly for therapeutic purposes.
